OUR NEXT CHAPTER
Today we are Tyree Guyton’s Heidelberg Project — We are transforming into Detroit’s Heidelberg Project, a sustainable community legacy that will empower a new generation of artists and inspire Detroit and Detroiters for the next 40 years and beyond.
WHAT’S NEXT
-
Construct a new revenue-generating gallery and welcome center, allowing visitors to view never-before-seen collections created by Tyree Guyton, and work from other artists over time.
Transform the Dotty Wotty House, Tyree Guyton’s childhood home, into the Heidelberg Project History House, honoring the legacy of the Heidelberg Project, and creating space where art can be preserved and studied.
Establish a rentable community space within the Numbers House, with a premiere artist-in-residence program and space for future neighborhood and educational programming.
-
Enhance the natural landscape with trees, flowers, and native plantings.
Install new signage that shares the history of the site, rules for visitors, and easy ways to support the Heidelberg Project via online giving.
Renovate the playground at Elba Ellery Park to its full potential.
Create accessible pedestrian and bicycle paths throughout the art environment.
Install permanent restrooms within the Heidelberg Project.
-
Support Tyree Guyton’s continued work on the art environment in the near term, and begin opening opportunities for integrating new socially engaged artists in the future.
Ensure the core art environment is positioned to evolve and be refreshed as works from the Heidelberg Project are collected by museums and work from new artists is introduced.
